The CII has partnered with the Southampton Data Science Academy (SDSA) to develop a unique new pilot course, the Introduction to Data Science & AI for Insurance, in July 2021.

This pilot combines the world-leading expertise of the Web Science Institute of the University of Southampton, led by UK AI Skills Champion Dame Wendy Hall, with the CII’s core technical insurance training to help address the Data Skills gap in insurance.

The course provides an overview of data tools and technologies, data analysis and visualisation techniques, combined with an ethical approach to AI and data science techniques with application within an insurance context.

The initial pilot is intended to test the format and depth of the course in preparation for a wider roll-out later this year and builds upon existing successful courses run by SDSA and Lloyd’s by increasing the insurance application and relevance beyond London Market.

Recent research and market commentators have pointed to the urgent need for broad upskilling in digital and data skills, including KPMG & LMG and McKinsey and this course is intended to help fill that gap for anyone – from broking, underwriting and claims professionals, to business analysts, product development, management and marketing roles.

If you are interested in supporting the pilot, please email: customer.serv@cii.co.uk
