In 2020, the Insurance Institute of Bristol identified a need to support its members who may be missing out on development opportunities following the shift from office to home working for many.
Younger members were more likely to be affected, so the institute’s NxtGen group – its cohort of younger-generation professionals – set about creating a programme of events.
Initial research and feedback suggested that common needs such as soft skills, mentoring, peer-to-peer learning and leadership skills were those most likely to be affected by the shift to a home-working environment.
The outcome is a leadership-focused course comprising five modules, with the aim to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills to become successful leaders of the future. Learning opportunities include webinars from expert speakers, Q&A sessions incorporating peer-to-peer feedback, practical course materials and ongoing mentorship throughout the course.
The sessions, plus a pre-event meet and greet, run from November 2020 to March 2021. They are:
- Limitless leadership.
- Happy workplace and mental health awareness.
- Leadership and coaching.
- Diversity and inclusion.
- Six degrees of impact.
Presenters include Anthony Gruppo, CEO at Marsh Commercial; Lorna Feeney, mental health senior consultant at Marsh Advisory; Nicci Take from Mercer Wealth UK; Pat Rose from the NHS; and Russell Thomas of the University of Exeter.
