Prior to Covid-19 lockdown, the Insurance Institute of Liverpool welcomed David Hertzell to talk to delegates about insurance fraud and the work of the Insurance Task Force.
As well as enjoying a highly respected legal career, Mr Hertzell is chair of the Insurance Task Force, which works to prevent and tackle insurance fraud.
Mr Hertzell acknowledged that insurance and fraud do have an unfortunate history together. Fraud in the UK insurance profession is commonplace and Mr Hertzell suggested that the cost of UK insurance fraud could total as much as £3.4bn annually; however, he conceded that this figure might be even greater as by its very nature fraud is generally undetected.
