Members of the Insurance Institute of Bolton recently attended a site visit of the largest firefighter training facility in the UK -- the purpose-built Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Training and Safety Centre in Bury.
The visit was designed to inform delegates on how to protect themselves against fire and other dangers, as well as looking at the ever-changing challenges facing Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
The first part of the tour focused on the facility and control room setup, where delegates witnessed typical calls and discussed how these were dealt with. The second part of the tour showed delegates various challenges set up for firefighters to practise on -- this ranged from fighting a tram fire through to a high-rise building inferno.
The tour finished with an excellent one-hour talk on fire source and investigation delivered by Burgoynes.
