Greg Rogers from scientific and engineering investigations specialist Burgoynes recently tested the Insurance Institute of Liverpool's members on whether they could spot an act of arson.

Mr Rogers, a specialist in forensic investigations of explosions, has worked at Burgoynes since 2006 and has investigated more than 700 incidents.

With extensive experience on marine investigations, he also has experience of preparing evidence for criminal proceedings. He explained the role of an investigator, particularly how they must be logical, up to date and have a methodical approach.

Mr Rogers took attendees on a theoretical journey through what a forensic scientist would look for and how they would collate the physical evidence, detailing the importance of photographs and sketches.
