Volunteers from the Ipswich, Suffolk & North Essex Institute provided local students at Suffolk One college with a series of mentoring sessions in the latter part of 2016.
Organised by the Institute's careers officer, Naomi Stuart of Axa Insurance, and supported by members of its young professionals group, the scheme offered business and economics students in years 12 and 13 an opportunity to gain an insight into the profession, while improving their job application skills.
The programme was held during three lunchtime periods, with each session covering a specific theme:
- Introductions, including mentor career history and mentee future aspirations, an overview of the profession, the CII and Discover Risk;
- CV writing, job applications and the use of social media (especially LinkedIn);
- Mock interviews for an entry-level insurance position.
