Last year, Darren Siwiec Dip CII was invited to the Insurance Institute of Exeter's annual dinner as the guest of an insurer, which started quite a journey for him and other local young members.

While watching the presentation of Advanced Diploma awards, he started thinking about how the Institute could showcase and help develop new local talent.

Fast forward to the beginning of this year and Mr Siwiec is a local institute council member and has helped start a young persons group (YPG) under the steering of local president Mark Fowles.

By listening to young people and asking them what they wanted from their local institute, the council is now organising targeted CPD and social events.

The group is already 35 members strong and currently arranging its third event, to take place in April. During the next couple of years, the Exeter council would like to have 50 members in the YPG and hold further CPD events, as well as supporting candidates through their CII qualifications and encouraging members to join the council.
