In her final blog for the CII, Florence Dennis offers her tips on how to stay motivated during the during the holidays.
With the year coming to an end, it is time to make those oh so dreaded new year's resolutions. My time on the CII blog is also coming to an end, with this being my final missive. It has been really, really great putting into writing all the positives of studying with the CII and I hope it has helped some of you and given some people the motivation to persue their goals.
As we move into 2017, I hope you all take a look into your first or next steps towards CII qualifications, as it is a step in the right direction for improving your professional self.
For those who haven't yet started or are taking a break from studying, why not add studying with the CII to your list of resolutions for 2017? There are so many reasons to start, so what's stopping you? I understand it seems like a rather large commitment but, when weighed up alongside the benefits of obtaining the qualifications, the commitment is worth it.
If you are undecided about whether to sign up and what to do, ask yourself if what you are doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year and so on. It is a busy time of year, as I am sure you all know, but making time for studying is important. It may seem taxing at times when you have to juggle work, study, social life, family and other commitments.
I know all too well how easy it is to slip and lose your routine and motivation and this is even easier to do with Christmas and 2017 approaching at ever increasing speed. I have a deadline on 15 January 2017; when I signed up I didn't think much about it, however I have begun to stress a little about getting everything done, then because I am stressed I cannot focus when I am studying-¦ argh!
Sometimes you may get stuck -- this is when you need something to get you back on track. I am a sucker for motivational quotes and my quote to share with you is: 'If you want to make something for yourself, work harder than everybody else.' For me it's quotes but everyone is different so find what works for you, so when you lose focus you can pull yourself back.
Writing these blogs has motivated me, so I can only hope it has motivated you, too. I would like to thank the CII for giving me this opportunity. I am sad to be finishing as I have learnt so much and I hope I have helped others fight the battle and reminded people not to lose hope. Times get hard and busy but just remember you are doing this for you and it is all worth it.
As always, good luck to those taking exams or signing up and well done to all those who have recently sat exams. I wish all a very happy new year!
THREE THINGS TO TAKE AWAY
KEEPING FOCUSED: During the festive period this is hard but find something that keeps you focused and motivated and you will do just fine.
NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS: Why not add CII exams to your list? It is all about improving yourself to better your career -- perfect for the list.
HAVE A REST: During your time off get some rest. It has been a busy 2016 so eat, drink and be merry (but don't forget to study).
