Florence Dennis explains how to tiptoe through the minefield of TV, wine and social engagements, while studying for the CII exams-¦

So, I have three episodes of Made in Chelsea, two episodes of Pretty Little Liars and an endless list of shows on Netflix to watch. How do I choose revision over this? I even have a bottle of wine in the fridge! It is hard to remember to study with everyday distractions, be it your Netflix hit list or your social and family commitments.

Like I have said before, it is all about planning and routine. If you tell yourself, like I do most nights, 'right Flo you can watch Netflix and drink that wine once you have done an hour's studying', then it gets it done and trust me, you feel loads better for it. It's kind of like bribing yourself.

Life is busy and it is hard to fit revision in to the endless list of other things we have to do, but it is all about priorities and making the time, there is always time. Put it this way: a couple of years of getting your head down and revising for an hour or so each night and, once you're done, you have an industry-recognised qualification and your free time back (although I must say I do wish to keep studying towards ACII).

That is one of the joys with the Chartered Insurance Institute exams -- there are different levels and you can choose to finish or just take a small break after each unit, as we all know it can be stressful and we all need a little breather occasionally.

Sticking to the plan

I have recently printed off a weekly planner, by which I write down what I will do each day of the week. This does mainly consist of study (everyday, I would like to add) and gym (yes, I am still pretending I will be a fitness queen one day). I do find stuff like this really helpful and, even if you don't stick exactly to your planner, it is a rough guide that can keep you on track and remind you what you should be doing.

I also recommend talking to people about your studies and by this I mean those outside of work, such as family and friends. For example, I told my housemate Scarlett about my studies, what they are, how they work, what they mean in the industry and she is an absolute star for motivating me. If I am ever on the sofa watching TV she will always ask: "Flo, have you revised?" It's great.

It is all about keeping motivated and sticking to your routine. Easier said than done I know, but you really do feel better for sticking to your study plan.

As always, a massive well done to those of you currently studying for or sitting your exams; and good luck to those who are just starting or have upcoming deadlines or exams. Don't give up, you can do this -- and remember, the harder you work for something, the greater you will feel when you achieve it.

Three things to take away

Bribe yourself.

With a bottle of wine, a piece of cake or your favourite show, tell yourself you can have those things after your study-¦
it works!

Plan.

If you give yourself a rough guideline it will help you keep on track

Talk to people.

Friends and family are great motivation as they want you to progress and expand your career, which is what the CII exams are all about
