Several large insurers have joined Inclusivity Partners’ third Cross-Market Insurance Returners Programme, endorsing it as an important initiative to help bridge the gender gap across the sector.
14 of the 15 candidates from Inclusivity’s first programme in 2021 – as featured in The Journal – are either now in permanent roles or have had contracts extended – a 92% retention rate so far.
Zurich, AXA XL, Lockton, Aon, Lloyd's of London, Willis Tower, Chaucer, AIG UK, Talbot, and Apollo Underwriting have all committed to provide employment opportunities for a minimum of six months to programme participants, some of whom have been out of the workforce for up to 15 years.
Inclusivity matches selected returners with the participating organisations, who have also pledged to offer upskilling and mentoring, recognising that career break returners have a better chance of fulfilling their potential with a high level of tailored support. Support is also provided to hiring managers to help them bring their returner up to speed as fast as possible.
24 returners in total were placed across the first two programmes, with more than half of those going onto four-day a week roles, while the rest were taken on full-time.
Candidates to date have come from a wide range of backgrounds, including catastrophe management, brokering, underwriting, risk and compliance, legal, IT, project management, ESG. Salaries have varied from mid-level, to an exceptional senior level candidate who was snapped up as the chief operating officer for the London market for one client, commanding a six figure salary.
While not all candidate career breaks revolved around having children – other reasons include caring for elderly parents, divorce, international relocations, setting up a small business or returning to study – it is certainly a running theme for the majority, highlighting the role programmes like this play in getting women back at the right place on the career ladder after starting a family.
Applications for the Inclusivity Partners’ third Cross-Market Insurance Returners Programme, open on March 14. Interested candidates should visit https://inclusivity.co.uk/insurance-returners/ to make their application.
