Public Interest Awards winners revealed

The winners of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) annual Public Interest Awards (PIA) were announced at a prestigious ceremony at Christ Church Spitalfields in London, on 21 April.

The PIAs exist to recognise instances where the general insurance profession has embraced the need to educate, inform, support and serve the public – be that private individuals, public bodies or businesses.

Award-winning presenter, broadcaster and journalist Jeremy Vine hosted the ceremony, where guests were entertained with tales from his famous Radio 2 show and his recent appearance on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, before he presented awards to the well-deserving winners.

The award winners were as follows:

Best Campaign in the Public Interest –
PR or Public Affairs: Cornish Mutual – FarmSafe Campaign

Best Campaign in the Public Interest – Business to Business: Legal & General –
State of the Nation SME research campaign

Best Campaign in the Public Interest –
Press: Insurance Times – The Fraud Charter

Best Customer Service Initiative –
Insurer: Axa Insurance – Digital Claims Transformation Programme

Best Customer Service Initiative –
Broker: Ladbrook Insurance and Hiscox Underwriting – Community Libraries

Best Corporate Social Responsibility Award: Lloyd’s – Lloyds’s Community Programme

Promoting the Profession – Careers:
Axa Business Insurance – Supporting Scotland’s Youth

Promoting the Profession – Professionalism: Thomas Carroll Group – #ChooseChartered Campaign

Sian Fisher, chief executive officer of the CII, said: “Our purpose, as stated clearly in our Royal Charter, is to secure and justify the confidence of the public in our members and the wider insurance community.

“These awards highlight ethical behaviour and the efforts made by the profession to champion customer focus and best practice. I am tremendously encouraged by the dedication shown by all entries as they have demonstrated excellence in this area.

“I congratulate our winners as they can rightly claim to have set the standard for their fellow insurance professionals to aim for.”
